The public health and the public interest both demand that we reverse "Blunt's Folly in Healthcare." Missouri's Medicaid cuts exemplify the threat of Republican control of both houses of the legislature and the executive branch. Democrats must continue the drumbeat of criticism of Republican disregard for the health of our state's most vulnerable citizens: children, the poor, disabled and impoverished elderly. Democrats must avoid the risk of using this situation for political gain, rather we must speak with moral strength and certainty. From this strong position Democrats can make the most of cross-party alliances, without resorting to hat in hand compromises, and chip away at the gutting of our state's healthcare safety net.

Education policy should put the children first

My candidacy will take a back seat to no one in its commitment to a nurturing, effective and efficient education policy. At a time when public budgets are tight, this kind of commitment is all the more vital to assuring that our kids receive the best education we can give them. I will ensure that our public schools are adequately funded and will oppose efforts by the state legislature to micro-manage decisions that should be made by local school boards, administrators and teachers.

The so-called Voter ID Law must go!

Starting with the November election, Missourians must show a government-issued photo ID to vote. I believe the recently enacted "Voter ID" law is wrong.

A responsible and value-based approach to state revenues

Missouri's boom - bust approach to state revenues harms every citizen. As the 10th District state senator, I will honor a set of tenets that establishes a practical approach to state revenues. Taxpayers should demand value for the tax-dollars they pay.

Campaign finance and lobbying reform are high priorities

One reason healthcare reform and other public interest proposals are so difficult to achieve is the perverse set of rules that govern campaign financing and lobbying in the state of Missouri. The public must take back control of their elections and government with true campaign finance and lobbying reform.

I Support the "Missouri Needs A Raise" Campaign

It is impossible to raise a family on $11,000 a year. But that is exactly what we ask tens of thousands of Missourians to do every year. In November, I will vote "Yes" on the ballot initiative that proposes raising the minimum wage in Missouri, and I urge my supporters to do the same.

Reproductive Choice is a Basic Right & Not Subject to Compromise

I am pro-choice. I am an active defender of reproductive freedom, and have been a long-time volunteer for Planned Parenthood, including participation in lobby days and assisting with organizing and fundraising activities.

Protect the Independent Judiciary

As a lawyer, I believe that one of the most important elements of government is an independent judiciary. I oppose efforts to abandon Missouri’s nonpartisan court plan and engage in jurisdiction-stripping of our courts.

I am a strong advocate for animal welfare reform. I believe that animal owners have a responsibility to ensure animal well-being including proper housing, management, nutrition, disease prevention and treatment, responsible care, humane handling, and when necessary, humane euthanasia.
